The deep waters off Sri Lanka’s southern coast are home to some of the largest whale populations in the Indian Ocean, with blue whales – the largest animals ever to have existed on earth – reliably sighted between November and April off the coast of Mirissa. Our guided boat excursions set out at dawn with experienced marine naturalists who bring both expertise and enthusiasm to each sighting, transforming a boat trip into an unforgettable wildlife encounter. Alongside the blue giants, you may encounter sperm whales, Bryde’s whales, pods of spinner and bottlenose dolphins and flying fish leaping in the vessel’s wake. These expeditions are conducted with the utmost respect for marine life, adhering to responsible whale watching guidelines to ensure minimal disturbance to these ocean inhabitants.
